MC Hammer already in training for Call of Duty 5 (or maybe not)

You simply can't touch his level of awesome

You simply can't touch his level of awesome

The king of the old-school cool, MC Hammer, was in Melbourne this Monday as part of the Xbox Insider Tour (pics and details soon!) and was happy to share his ideas about Twitter and gaming with the people (alongside singing a few classic hits).  My voice recorder did a fine job amongst the pumped up crowd, so I managed to get his words down on tape.

But while his philosophy on Twitter is somewhat inspiring, did you also know he’s got the inside low-down on Call of Duty 5? … Well, sort of:

The message is, get your new update, get on Twitter and connect.  We stay connected on Twitter, and I can travel the world, you can travel the world and we all still connected, because the world is only this big [holds his fingers millimeters apart] now, right? We just a tweet away from each other, and it’s fantastic that people want to connect that way.  In particular all the people who are gaming, while I’m whooping you at Call of Duty or whatnot.  All of you gamers get ready, because I’ve been in training!  Call of Duty 4 … or 5 or whatever it is.  Be ready!

-MC Hammer, ready to cause hammer-time online

And when the Hammer tells you to be ready, you listen.  Now if only we had of found out his gamertag … that’s a multiplayer game of Modern Warfare 2 I wouldn’t want to miss!  I mean the guy essentially invented the idea of side-strafing!

If you’re digging his message, maybe you should add to the 1.6 million people who follow him on Twitter.  I’m sure 1.7 million can’t be that far off.

Tales from Armageddon

Trying to stay true to George's vision, Moose is waiting for Greedo to shoot first

Trying to stay true to George's vision, Moose is waiting for Greedo to shoot first

So we made our way last weekend to check out Armageddon Expo in Melbourne. The exhibition centres around anime and comics culture, but also had plenty of side booths for cinema and gaming.

Tell the truth, by the time we’d made our way around the expo floor twice we were a little disappointed. While the place was chock full of people (including a good split of both good and bad cosplayers), it seemed as through we’d bought tickets to be let in to go shopping in a geek bazaar. While there was plenty of cool stuff on sale, the problem was that most of it was just that, on sale.

So after meandering our way through crowds of anime fans and perusing several stalls for any cool merch, I made my way over to the games areas to see what was on show.

Not a whole lot, as it turns out, but I made the best of what was on offer.

At the Capcom booth I managed to have a play of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, a game I was naturally drawn to after discovering a little while ago that Frank West from Dead Rising was a playable character. Moose attempted to make fun of me for being so excited, which I quickly remedied by schooling him with Frank West’s shopping trolley attack. (more…)

Xperience Xbox Fundraiser Event

For all our Australian readers (Victorians in particular), this piqued my interest when I read it on Twitter: The crew over at OzBoxLive are helping to organise a fundraiser called “Xperience Xbox” to take place at the Victorian State Library.

All the proceeds are going towards the Royal Children’s Hospital. Entry is free, and raffles will be held through the night with prizes and giveaways.

Me and Mark already have our spots reserved. After all, of the many places we’ve played Xbox, could any of them be as classy as the State Library? The answer is no, of course.

The event takes place on the 17th of July, from 6.30 through to 9pm. Raffles and games throughout the night. To book your place, pop over to the event site, and we’ll see you there! As much credit as we can to OzBoxLive also, for helping to set up this shindig!
